Current Affairs

Madonna & Malawi

Heard on the news this morning that child action groups in Malawi are trying to stop Madonna from adopting a young boy, as she hasn't lived in the country so therefore the adoption is, in their eyes illegal.
So this so-called group that is supposed to support children, is trying to prevent the boy from having a far greater life than he would by staying with his father in Malawi. The fact that Madonna is also donating a huge sum of money to the orphanage is also going to be of benefit to the children that have not been adopted, but does this action group care? Well they can't do really, it no wonder adoption rates are not what they should be.

I just wonder what some people think about, when they bring suits like this. Why shouldn't she be able to do so, why is there such a problem with her adopting? The laws in the UK regarding adoption are so tight that more and more couples are going to other countries in order to adopt. For example when I was returning from one of my China trips there were quite a number of American couples on my flight that had Chinese babies with them, and it seemed to me that those kids where all in line for a better life. Culture and language aside, as long as the kids lives are better (and that is the most important thing) why do we have these bloody organisations creating, for the benefit of the child, when it so clearly isn't.

Muslim Masks?

Another thing in the news this week, and that is the on-going argument regarding the UK's Jack Straw, and his request that all Muslim women should remove their veil, when they come to his surgery. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion, but it has caused uproar in the Muslim community, and more and more Muslim women are now refusing to remove their veils. Indeed many are trying to bring litigation against employers who ask them to do so.

One such case is of a teacher who refused to remove it whilst she was teaching. Now I may be wrong here but just put yourself in the kids shoes, they see this woman come in with her mouth covered, she is trying to teach them, and all they hear is a muffled voice. Also the kids have probably been told by their parents, and have seen it on TV that robbers and bad people where masks to hide their identity. Which means the kids are more than likely scared of this teacher. So what gives? Well this particular teacher has said she would remove her veil if there were no men of age present in the classroom. Big Deal! If she wants to work in the classroom, she should abide by the school rules, otherwise she doesn't work in the classroom.

It is ironic though that now the Labour government are seeing their Muslim votes dwindle so they are starting to encourage the use of the Muslim veil on women, and are trying to distance themselves from Jack Straws comment. I bloody hate the hypocritical labour party, and their "Lets go with public opinion, if it changes we change" policies. Well sorry Labour but we the great British public are wise to your Spin now and you ain't getting in again!

Best in 47 years!

Finally I have to give a brief mention to my team Lincoln City, for recording their biggest away win in the league for 47 years. A 5-0 drubbing of Barnet. Now Barnet's nickname is the bees, so on this occasion they were well and truly stung.

Second in the league and the highest scorers, can't be bad. COME ON YOU IMPS!!!

When Madonna's involved, I always doubt she's sincere...

What a score for Lincoln Dave!!
On the other subject- the baby Madonna is trying to adopt will no doubt want for nothing but wouldn't it have been better for her to pay for his upbringing and leave him with the family he knows instead of bringing him to an alien culture? Love Mumsyxx

Thing is Mum, you have to consider what the best thing is for the baby. A life of poverty and hunger, with little education, and a bleak future with regard to work. Or a good prosperous future with the education about his roots and culture still available to him, and the possibility of him aiding his fellow countrymen in the future.

So Madonna gets her publicity, the baby gets a mother and father, and a chance in life, the orphanage gets a huge cash injection, I think it's a win, win situation. Also this publicity is going to highlight the plight of other kids, that will inevitably lead to more adoptions.

WIN WIN alround!
